Blog Post #37 - Music Ideas

Sound effects and music must have key features in all horror movies.   They are what gives the viewer cues that something is possibly dangerous.  Something is about to happen.  Wait...   what was that noise?

Music sets a setting.   Whether it's an upbeat rock tempo to set the scene for some kids driving and having a good time just before that crash, or sad solemn music that plays to emotionally bring down the viewer to a sought-after level to entice them to form an attachment to a character, music is in all horror movies.

Scary movie must - heartbeat sound effects...scared, fast, heartbeat sound effects.  Nothing cues a viewer to a scene like sound effects.  The best ones for horror movies are eerie, creaking, scrapping, crunching, thudding sounds.  Especially in the dark.  They bring the promise of surprise, shock, and awe.
